The introduction of the spray tower

Spray tower, referred to as wet scrubber. A spray tower is a kind of equipment for waste gas treatment, and such purification equipment can be used in industrial waste gas treatment. Usually, more acid mist exhaust gas is treated, so it is also called an acid mist exhaust gas tower. But our spray tower can treat other waste gases in addition to acid mist waste gas, such as ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide waste gas, VOC organic waste gas, domestic waste gas, and waste combustion waste gas.

Taking the treatment of acid mist exhaust gas as an example, the working principle, characteristics, and structure of the spray tower are briefly introduced.

The spray tower working principle:

The acid mist exhaust gas is introduced into the air pipe’s purification tower and passes through the packing layer. The exhaust gas and the sodium hydroxide absorption liquid undergo gas-liquid two-phase complete contact, absorption, and neutralization reaction. The fan is discharged into the atmosphere. The absorption liquid is sprayed down at the top of the tower after being pressurized by a water pump at the bottom of the building and finally returned to the bottom of the recycling outlook. The purified acid mist exhaust gas meets the emission standard’s emission standards, which are lower than the national emission standard.

Features of wet scrubber
  • The efficiency of dust removal and desulfurization is high. When alkaline washing water is used, the desulfurization efficiency can reach 85%.
  • The equipment occupies a small area and is easy to install.
  • Low water and power consumption indicators.
  • Corrosion-resistant, non-wearing, and long service life.
  • The equipment runs reliably, and the maintenance is convenient and straightforward.
Wet scrubber structure

The conventional spray tower structure is summarized as one layer of defogging, two layers of spraying, three layers of packing, four windows, and five Union ball valves.

Demisting layer: Generally separated by grid plates, a filler is placed on it, and the height of the filler layer can reach 500mm. To improve the efficiency of defogging, the spray tower produced by our company can be equipped with a plate-type defogger.

Spray layer: The spray layer is composed of spray pipes and nozzles. According to the diameter of the spray tower, the density of spray pipes and nozzles is different. Using high-efficiency nozzles, the spray is even, and the flow is large and not easy to be blocked.

Packing layer: The packing layer is placed on top of the defogging layer and sprays layer. The leading fillers are multi-faceted hollow balls and Raschig rings. The spray tower’s backing layer is used as a mass transfer device for the contact components between the gas and liquid phases. The packing tower’s bottom is equipped with packing support plates, and the packing is placed on the support plates in a random pile. A packing pressure plate is installed above the filling to prevent it from being blown by the rising airflow. The spray tower spray liquid is sprayed onto the packing from the top of the tower through the liquid distributor and flows down the filling surface.

Window: It is also called the detection port. Usually, the formed window has two specifications of φ500mm and φ400mm. The window’s primary function is to observe the spray tower’s operation, replace the packing, and repair the nozzle.

Spray tower installation instructions

1. Connect your exhaust chimney outlet to the inlet of the washing tower (exhaust gas scrubber);

2. Connect the outlet of the washing tower to the inlet of the activated carbon equipment through the S-shaped connecting pipe;
3. Connect the outlet of the activated carbon equipment to the inlet of the centrifugal fan through the PVC soft connection;
4. Connect the outlet of the centrifugal fan to the chimney duct through the reducing head;
5. The exhaust gas will be purified by the washing tower, and then enter the activated carbon equipment through the S-shaped connecting pipe for adsorption, so as to obtain clean gas, which will enter the atmosphere through the centrifugal fan and chimney duct.
